Dervenis Christos

He graduated from the University of Athens in 1978 and received his degree in Surgery in 1985. He continued his further education in London (St. Georges Hospital) in Pancreatic, Liver and Biliary Surgery and in Hamburg, Germany, (Endoscopy) and Bern, Switzerland.

He was Coordinating Director of Surgery at Konstantopoulio Hospital of Nea Ionia “Aghia Olga” for 18 years and Professor of Surgery at the University of Cyprus. He is also a visiting professor at the School of Medicine of the University of Athens. He is currently Director of the Department of Surgical Oncology and Liver, Biliary and Pancreatic Surgery at the Metropolitan Hospital and Director of the Medical Service of the same hospital.

He has been invited as visiting professor by various universities in Europe and the USA, including the Mayo Clinic Medical School, Rochester, MN and Yale University, CT USA: Harvard Medical School (invited lecturer). In Europe by the University of Lund, Sweden, University of Verona, Italy, and University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.

He has been President of the European Liver-Biliary Pancreatic Society and a member of the Board of the International Society. He has also been president of the European Society of Digestive Surgery and vice-president of the European Association of Medical Specialties (Liver-Biliary-Pancreas). He is also a founding member and president of the Hellenic Liver - Biliary - Pancreas Society.

He was nominated honorary member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the Argentine Academy of Surgery, the Italian Liver, Biliary and Pancreatic Society and the Turkish Society of Surgery.

He is a member of the Editorial Boards of major medical journals including the British Journal of Surgery, Pancreatology, the IHPBA journal HPB, and HPB Surgery.

Professor Dervenis has published 3 books in international publishing houses and has published 227 articles with about 41000 citations and h-index 71. Recently he was one of the 28 academics of the University of Cyprus who was included in the list of the top 2% of scientists ranked by Stanford University, USA.
